A System and Method for Measuring Strain Using Reusable Marks

Description:

Reference #: 01388

The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for a system and method for measuring strain using reusable marks.

Background:

The invention is a system method for measuring strain using reusable markers. The Center Dot is easy to apply to tensile specimens. This invention overcomes the limitation of conventional methods and provide full stress-strain curve break point with very accurate and repeatable measurements.

Invention Description:

This invention solves the problem of paint markers when used with high extensible materials. It also solves the problem of high error of using self-stick markers.

Potential Applications:

This invention works well with all material types no matter soft or hard, extensible or brittle.

Advantages and Benefits:

This invention solves the fading problem of paint markers. It can be produced to meet material thickness, specimen shape, and color. Additionally, Center Dot will decrease the preparation time that is required to apply paint markers using a paint marker pen.  It also increases the accuracy of measured strain.
