Veiled Biometrics

Reference #: 00818

Invention Description:

This technology involves protection against identity thefts by the use of veiled certificates. When a certificate is presented by an individual, it is scanned to obtain appropriate biometric information. This is converted to a biometric template and then compared against the reference encrypted biometric information embedded in the certificate.

Potential Applications:

This technology addresses identity thefts involving an owner’s accidental exposure of their public key. It also provides additional protection for the transacting partner by more securely linking the individual to his certificate. This allows the certificate owner to prevent the inappropriate sharing of benefits of the certificate with another individual.

Advantages and Benefits:

By incorporating veiled biometric authentication into certificates, an added security is obtained while maintaining unlinkability between the certificate and the owner. This could aid in limiting the interconnection of independent information systems.
