John Weidner

John W. Weidner, PhD.
Department of Chemical Engineering
University of South Carolina

Dr. Weidner is the CEC Campaign for Excellence Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina. He is also an Editor of Electrochemical Society Transactions (ECST). Dr. Weidner’s research group is involved in the synthesis and characterization of electrochemically active materials and the design and operation of electrochemical processes. They have created novel synthesis routines, used a variety of electrocatalytical techniques, and developed sophisticated mathematical models to advance the fields of advanced batteries, electrochemical capacitors, fuel cells, electrochemical synthesis of ionic liquids in room temperature, and electrolysis involving gas-fed anodes (e.g., HBr, HCl, SO2). Their current research projects are related to hydrogen and alternative energy. Dr. Weidner received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his PhD. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
