Invention Description:

Multivariate optical computing is ordinarily used to quantitate chemical analytes in complex chemical mixtures and samples. The subject invention includes methods for applying multivariate optical computing to classification analysis (i.e., determining to what class a given sample belongs). One such method involves converting the conventional classification analysis into a pseudo-quantitation problem.  Additional approaches rely entirely upon refinement of multivariate optical elements to optimize their classification performance.
